Reimagine Time
The Core Concepts
In week one, we will reimagine the concept of time and how our use of our time shapes us spiritually, mentally, relationally, and physically.
We always strive to submit ourselves under God’s mighty hand, letting him dictate how we live life and spend our time and what we spend time on. Our routine is the key to purposeful living. We believe that God has a legitimate interest in how we spend our time. Therefore, we commit to a daily routine, when carried out as a practice of obedience over a prolonged time, cultivate our spirit, soul, and body and gives us creative energy and a balanced living that we would not have otherwise. Instead of mindless entertainment, we practice a rhythm of work and rest. We learn to say “NO” to friends, family, and colleagues and all the frivolities of life that seek to waste our energy and creativity and deprive us of balance, improvement, and enrichment both physically and spiritually, attending to our need to grow in all dimensions of being human: heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Touchstone Practice
As a baseline, we commit to taking at least one hour daily to give attention to our spiritual lives, cultivate God’s presence, and thoughtfully consider our daily plan. We remain attentive all day for opportunities to practice godliness, acquire habits of virtue, and be physically active to develop our strength and endurance. We commit to take one full day of rest every week for complete rest from our daily work and to make Sabbath possible for everyone within our sphere of authority.
Strive Practices
As strive practice, we aspire to:
- Follow Jesus’ example of stopping for prayer at least twice daily – at the beginning and end of the day.
- Read at least one chapter of the Bible every day.
- Plan for extended periods of rest, recreation, and reflection – for ourselves and those under the influence of our authority.
- Do an in-depth study of a topic of the Bible once a week to grow our depth of understanding and knowledge of the Kingdom.
Creative Strategies/Actions
We seek ways outside the norms to incorporate rest and physical health into our lives and those we work with, including listening to uplifting music, podcasts, and videos and intentionally consuming healthy content.
Hope to Thrive
We hope for the result of proactive living in the form of a noble personality, a balanced character, and a beautifully integrated personality with a diminished sense of hurry and anxiety – a life marked by quietness, composure, and inner strength and peace. We hope to thrive, not just survive.
